This
annual event was held 'late' this year, on 9th February 2002 instead of
November 2001, at the
Grangemoor Hotel in Maidstone. With over 110 Members, Ex-Members, Diving
friends from Northfleet, Sandgate and Dover and their partners attended. Everyone
looked very smart and well scrubbed, especially the men wearing their dinner
jackets and bow ties.
After dinner, John Sutehall held a free Raffle, which was enjoyed by everyone (especially Sid Meadows).
The
Chairman, Peter Lee, then gave a short account of the Club's history and
progress. He told of the decline in numbers and the decision to open the Club
to members of all Diving Associations, which hopefully would attract new
Members. The lack of pool facilities would be missed, but by directing novice
divers to schools for their initial training, the new members could then gain
more experience of diving within the Club situation.
The Diving Officer, Dave Green, then gave out just one Award for the year. A Club Member award to the person who he felt had contributed most to the Club during the past season with his tireless efforts in keeping the boats and trailers 'up and running' - the Award was made to Nigel Brooks.
An
Award for the Diver of the Year was
not made this year.
Dancing
to the Disco
rounded off the very successful and entertaining evening.
